My name is Kai Niihara / 新原 甲斐.

I am a video editor based in Los Angeles.  I can speak both English and Japanese fluently.

​​

I began playing piano and violin in elementary school; I sadly never had much talent but I still grew to love music. I eventually discovered film scores and they became my passion. This passion lead me to pursue a career in the film-making industry.

​

I  attended the LA County High School for the Arts as a visual arts and film student.  I graduated in 2015 from the Art Center College of Design, majoring in Film Editing.  

​​

My most recent work experience was at Create Advertising Group as an editor in the Creative Marketing team, working on big title TV spots, digital media spots, sizzles and promos. My most notable projects in this role include editing the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s “Screen X” spot, the Japanese trailer for the film Imaginary Friends, and the film Ghostbusters Frozen Empire’s Instagram spot. I have also worked on award winning titles like Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis and The Rings of Power during my time at the firm Mob Scene.

 

​I am skilled in the use of editorial software including Adobe Premiere, Audition, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro.

I am flexible and experienced in working on short and long-form projects, including but not limited to, trailers, TV/digital spots, featurettes, sizzles/reel/promos and films.

​​
